Adnan Bokhari, Chief Financial Officer, JA Worldwide
Adnan is a distinguished expert in the nonprofit sector, bringing over 20 years of experience and a proven track record of building resilient organizations.
Prior to joining JA Worldwide, Adnan served in Chief Financial and Operations Executive roles at influential US-based organizations, such as the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, National Immigration Law Center, and Prosperity Now.
Throughout his career, Adnan has designed and successfully implemented several frameworks to maximize impact and organizational resiliency. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Adnan is a dedicated social influencer committed to creating opportunities for underrepresented communities. He has initiated and supported several projects related to education, economic inclusion, and workforce development in the US and Pakistan.
Drawing from his own experiences as a low-income, asset-poor, and first-generation immigrant to the US, Adnan is deeply committed to unlocking potential by creating opportunities. As a Governor's appointee to the Virginia Community Colleges System Board (2018–2022), he worked at both individual and systemic levels to remove barriers for students by challenging existing policies. During his tenure on the Board, he successfully eliminated numerous burdensome requirements for students. In collaboration with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and College Promise, Adnan contributed to research on First-Generation College Students, which was published by Wiley in 2022. This research has been utilized for developing new models of support and sustainability tailored to better serve this vulnerable student demographic.
Adnan is also a frequent speaker, having presented at high-profile events such as the Yale Philanthropy Conference. His passion for social causes has led him to serve on the executive boards of the National Housing Trust and the Indivisible Project. Furthermore, his outstanding contributions to the betterment of society have earned him a nomination to the Fairfax County Human Rights Commission.
Adnan holds a Master of Science degree in Finance from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. He and his family reside in Fairfax County, Virginia.
