JA Worldwide Board of Governors Spotlight: Peter Njonjo
July 15, 2020
Peter Njonjo, co-founder and CEO of Twiga Foods, joined the JA Worldwide Board of Governors in January 2020. A 21-year veteran of The Coca-Cola Company, Peter served as President of the Western and Central Africa Business Unit in Lagos, Nigeria, before founding Twiga Foods in 2014.
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Twiga Foods is a technology enabled business to business food distribution platform that builds fair and reliable markets for agricultural producers, food manufacturers and retailers based on transparency and efficiency.. Supply chain inefficiencies in the African food market have led Africans to spend 50% of their disposable incomes on food, largely due to the informality of the retail industry on the continent. Twiga improves access to lower-cost and higher-quality food in African cities through the creation of a business-to-business marketplace.
Peter is a graduate of the United States International University–Africa, where he also received his MBA in Strategic Management. He is a Certified Public Accountant, educated at Strathmore Business School, and he participated in the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School. Among his many achievements, Peter was voted among the top 100 young leaders in Africa by Forbes Afrique and he was named to the “Top 40 Under 40” listed by Kenya’s The Business Daily.
Under Peter’s leadership, Twiga Foods was just named one of 100 World Economic Forum (WEF) Technology Pioneers 2020, joining 99 other growth-stage companies from around the world that are involved in the design, development, and deployment of new technologies and innovations. Ultimately, the companies named to this exclusive list are poised to have a significant impact on business and society. As a WEF Technology Pioneer, Twiga Foods will have a greater platform to engage with public- and private-sector leaders and to contribute its unique solution to overcome food insecurity in African nations.
JA Worldwide is honored to have Peter Njonjo serve on our Board of Governors.
