JA USA Asks—and Answers—"Why JA? And Why Now?"
July 8, 2020
Last month, Junior Achievement USA released “Why JA? And Why Now? A Response to the Uncertainty and Inequity Facing Generation Z.” Given the seismic changes that have taken place in 2020, including the emotional and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and social unrest related to systemic racial barriers and inequity, “Why JA? And Why Now?” delves into the possible long-term effect of these events on Generation Z.
The thought leadership piece starts by exploring how the Great Recession contributed to Millennials being one of the least wealthy generations since the Great Depression and draws connections between their experiences and what could potentially happen to Generation Z. At the same time, the paper examines evidence of racial and social inequity and its impact on millions of Americans. The document then explains the role Junior Achievement can play in helping Generation Z navigate our current uncertainty with increased work and career readiness, financial capability, and entrepreneurship and potentially avoid some of the long-term challenges identified.
