Steven Banda: Empowering Sustainable Agribusiness for Africa
Steven Banda founded Gaphen Projects because he witnessed firsthand the challenges small farmers faced, including limited access to markets and low yields resulting from unsustainable farming practices. Today, Gaphen Projects empowers small farmers and champions climate-smart practices for a greener future.
Gaphen’s holistic approach combines market access, training, and digital resources to equip farmers with the skills they need to thrive. The company’s innovative out-grower scheme connects farmers to better markets, enabling them to earn more for their hard work. Gaphen also facilitates training programs that promote climate-smart techniques, resource management, and effective farming practices that promote long-term sustainability.
Since 2014, Steven has actively engaged with JA in Zambia and he has been instrumental in spearheading the establishment and growth of the JA alumni network in his country. As a passionate advocate for JA, Steven works to connect with other JA alumni, build a community, and support the JA’s mission in Zambia. In 2023, he completed the Alumni Leaders Academy Africa, which will help him achieve his goal of bringing together JA alumni to create a thriving community of young professionals who want to advance entrepreneurship education and empower the economy in Zambia. As the president of the JA Zambia alumni network, Steven organizes events and activities including networking opportunities, mentoring programs, and career development workshops to equip alumni with additional skills and resources.
