Winners Announced for the JA Labs Innovation Fund, Fueled by Citi Foundation
October 22, 2018
The JA Labs Innovation Fund, funded by Citi Foundation, seeks to support organic innovation at JA locations (JA member countries, sub-national offices, and JA local areas) around the world.
In the first round of submissions, 57 ideas sought to harness each organization’s creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and calculated risk-taking. Applications were judged on three core components: innovation, replicability, and youth impact.
Congratulations to the two winners:
Young Enterprise, UK: YE UK will partner with Apps for Good, a tech NGO that teaches young people how to design and build technology products that solve problems that matter to them. This technology will be embedded into JA learning experiences, with potential for further expansion across the UK.
JA of Northern California, USA (JANC): JANC will pilot a speed-mentoring and STEM-focused event for high school girls from at-risk communities, called S.H.E Leads (see intro video, below).
New applicants (as well as applications from the first round that did not win) are eligible to submit again during the next round of the JA Labs competition, which will open January 1, 2019, and close February 28, 2019 at jaworldwide.org/jalabs. Citi Foundation and JA look forward to seeing either existing innovation that can be scaled with additional funding or entirely new ideas that have significant potential but need funds for a pilot.
