GLC Virtual Day 2
October 24, 2023
Day 2 of our Global Leadership Conference (GLC) was all about the human side of JA. With masterclasses like Coach Like a World-Class Expert and Success Through Project Management, a panel featuring regional alumni leaders and their impact, as well as a personal and professional development opportunity: Design the Life You Love with Ayse Birsel, this day was jam-packed. We also recognized our JA colleagues’ dedication to the mission with the biennial JA Service Awards, spotlighting JA staff anniversaries from five to 50 years of service. And because our JA offices around the world all have their own boards, we hosted a special invitation-only session for board members to raise awareness of the JA global strategy and its value to JA locations, build community, deepen connections with board members across the globe, and support board engagement at all levels of the organization.
Day 2 Sessions
Visualizing Success with Remap
Remap founder Maya Raichoora, a Young Enterprise UK alumna, teaches visualization—also known as mental rehearsing—an active mental practice through which you create images, environments, and feelings before they've happened. Our greatest limitations and our greatest accomplishments come from our brains and the 86 billion neurons there. This session helped attendees on the road to training their brains the same way they might train their bodies.
Resilience at JA: The Important Role of Boards and Board Members
This invitation-only session for JA board members around the world was designed to support and celebrate board engagement and development at all levels of the organization. “Resilience at JA: The Important Role of Boards and Board Members” allowed board members to develop new connections and relationships across the globe, learn how other regions and nations are bringing JA’s strategy to life, and be inspired by JA’s strategic aspirations and vision.
JA Service Awards: Honoring Our Colleagues
Held every two years, the JA Service Awards honors JA employees’ years of service, outstanding contributions to the workplace, and commitment to enhancing the lives of young people all over the world. This year, JA employees once again showed their resiliency and commitment to success. We gather attendees virtually to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our honorees.
Design the Life You Love with Ayse Birsel
Ayse Birsel took attendees on a creative journey to help them bring together what they want and what they need. Using Ayse’s design process and tools, attendees worked to clarify their personal vision and set actions for their redesigned life, helping them design the work, team, leadership, and community they love.
JA GO: New Global Orientation
JA staff got a sneak peek at JA’s Global Orientation, JA GO. The session highlighted some of the best aspects of JA GO, according to 2023 participants, from understanding the JA Worldwide strategy and brand to bonding with new colleagues and finding out how our Nobel Peace Prize–nominated global organization collaborates around the world.
From Vision to Reality: Regional Alumni Leaders and Their Impact
This session, open to the entire alumni network in addition to JA staff, brought together JA alumni leaders from five of our six regions. Speakers from JA Alumni Europe, JA Côte d’Ivoire Alumni, JA Guam Alumni, JA Japan Alumni, JA Americas, and Junior Achievement USA discussed the year’s alumni activities and the exciting opportunities coming up.
Coach Like a World-Class Expert
JA staff learned how to practice key techniques and tools (specifically about how to ask great questions) to dramatically increase their coaching skills with their teams. This interactive session included small breakouts to practice the tools described.
How to “Gather”
JA’s alumni community Gather offers a variety of features to start, grow, and leverage your alumni network. In this session, attendees gained full insight into the functionalities of Gather and how JA alumni can customize it for their local needs.
A Moment for Yourself: Meditation
We wrapped up the day with a calming meditation session.
Check back tomorrow to find out what we learned on Day 3, Learning Experiences and Technology.
