JA Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week 2020

November 23, 2020

JA Worldwide found itself in good company during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2020. While every week is entrepreneurship week for JA, we loved celebrating with organizations and individuals around the world. Adding on the recent launch of the nominations period for the Global Business Hall of Fame last week, the timing of GEW couldn’t have been better!

Throughout GEW 2020, 10 million entrepreneurs in 180 countries participated in 40,000 events. JA is proud to partner with GEW, which offered virtual events, insightful panel discussions, an entrepreneurial content library, and various projects depending on participants’ goals. Presented by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), GEW began in 2008 to inspire young people to make their mark. Now in its 12th year, GEW engages entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers, support organizations, and more in a collaborative effort to advance economic growth and innovation in more than 170 countries.

Our CEO Asheesh Advani helped us kick off GEW with a video shoutout!

The all-new Global Barter Challenge is an initiative of GEW to help innovators and problem-solvers work together for mutual gain using their skills and resources. By leveraging skill sets, subject matter expertise, and competitive advantages, barter participants can scale up their businesses without an outlay of cash.

JA Worldwide’s impact consultant Thomas Gold wrote a thought-provoking thought-leadership piece about Gen Z and the economic future.

2020 has also shown us that economic insecurity will not be the only factor facing Gen Z. We are only at the beginning of much-needed conversations and actions around climate change, social justice, racial equity, and the state of democracy. To be ready for these challenges, young people need a new kind of education, one that prepares them for a future that is unpredictable, both economically and socially.

Another highlight of the week, Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, gave a keynote address. Who would have thought that didn’t think of himself as an entrepreneur?

JA USA alumnus Mark Cuban also participated in an event for GEW Texas.

And so much more from JA locations around the world!
