GE Foundation Partners with JA for Student Success

Thanks to the GE Foundation, JA students around the world are sharpening their STEM skills and adding to their career options. 

GE volunteers partner with student teams to tackle issues of local importance through the JA Innovation Challenge, a program that prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). JA Innovation Challenge is being chosen for delivery among the 77 JA and GE locations across 39 countries participating in the Global Education Initiative.

In addition to this global initiative, GE volunteers partner with JA locally. In Ghana, for example, JA Africa teamed up with GE Africa to host a STEM Challenge: 122 students, mentored by GE senior executives and JA staff, built STEM skills, discussed ethical issues that engineers face, saw how STEM professionals spend their time, and worked with a peer team to solve a community issue.

JA locations across the globe also use social media to promote GE's annual Global Month of Service (November) and encourage local volunteers to use and incorporate the GE Volunteer Module, a training manual that simplifies the GE volunteer experience. The GE Volunteer Module helps volunteers articulate GE's role in the industrial internet and understand the importance of preparing students for 21st-century STEM careers.
