JA Returns for the 2022 Boston Marathon
April 7, 2022
The Boston Marathon is back, and so are our JA runners and supporters!
Last September, the Boston Athletic Association hosted the first-ever virtual Boston Marathon, which allowed JA supporters in the US, Mexico, Argentina, Lebanon, China, Canada, and Kenya to run, walk, or wheel 26.2 miles to raise money for JA. This year, the marathon not only returns to a fully in-person race from Hopkinton to Boylston St., but also to its traditional month, with the race kicking off on April 18.
JA Worldwide was selected for the third year as an official Partner of John Hancock in the 2022 Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program, allowing us to offer two bibs to individuals who want to participate in the marathon and raise money for our organization.
Our Runners
We’re excited to introduce two individuals participating in the 126th Boston Marathon for JA: Wayne Saville and Mariana Pantin Azpúrua.
Running the Boston Marathon has been a longtime dream for Wayne Saville, and he’s thrilled to be able to raise money for JA Worldwide with his participation.
The 126th Boston Marathon will be Mariana Pantin Azpúrua’s eighth marathon, but, she says, it will also be her most meaningful as she runs to raise money for JA Americas.
In addition to our runners on the ground, Boston native, JA alumnus, and Global Council Member William “Bill” Schawbel continues to lead the charge on the marathon initiative for our organization. Bill participated in the Boston Marathon in 2020 (also his 80th birthday) and 2021 on his home treadmill to raise money for JA—and he matched donations. This year, Bill has once again pledged to match every donation received for JA Worldwide. Make your donation now!
